Turkey Trot or giant goose egg???

Today was our schools annual turkey trot.

Every year the winners in each grade get a turkey , well that's how it USED to be. 

From what I understand, from the powers that be, the turkey trot, is now a "fun run" with no winners, because it was creating too much competition.

Really??

We can't give awards for academic achievement because the kids who aren't as smart will feel bad.

We can't give awards for athletic achievement because the kids who aren't as athletic will feel bad.

I think my boys summed it up this morning...

Tanner - "It's not even a turkey trot anymore, it was the TURKEY trot, because you could win a TURKEY"

Garrett - "This year it's a disappointment trot"

You know, since we are going to be driving to El Centro tomorrow for John's CIF game, I don't think they should call us "losers" if we don't score enough points (which is likely to be the outcome). That would make me feel bad and it doesn't seem fair after all the effort we will have gone through to get there.

Instead, I think that we should be called "Second Winners," and that in an act of solidarity, the other team should elect not to advance in the playoffs.

Blech! B/S! Poppycock! Stuff like this annoys the crap out of me.

oye. these things get my ire in a knot. I can promise you that is not helping them prepare for college or the working world. What's fun about running for no prize? That's just dumb.

A friend made a comment today that got me thinking. (dangerous I know) So, I was wondering, (if ya'll wouldn't mind chiming in) at what age your kids either did or will do the following activities... ok so survey says..... How old was/ or will you child be when you let them.... play outside with no parental supervision- sleep over at a friend's house - wear make-up - have a bed time later than 7:30 - go on a date - there are no right or wrong answers here, just curious.  Everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another, so no answers will be judged.. I am just wondering where I fall in the averages :)

It never seems to fail. I go shopping.. doesn't matter where.. just out shopping. Having myself a grand ol' time, whether it be shopping for groceries or things a lot more fun than that, shopping. Shopping is great, until.... I leave the confines of the store/mall etc, and head to the parking lot only to have NO clue WHAT-SO-EVER where my fricken frackin car is!! NONE! No idea at all, good thing I have a green mini-van, cause THOSE aren't common! So then I embark on the mission of trying to find my car. I try the nonchalant approach at first, strolling with purpose down an isle as if I know exactly where I am going.
